Merry Christmas

Jesus Is The Reason

In Bethlehem, God gave to us
The source of Christmas joy;
A star shown on a miracle:
The virgin birth of a boy.
He was born both God and man,
A Savior for us all,
The way to get to our heavenly home,
If we just heed His call.
So as we shop and spend and wrap
And enjoy the Christmas season,
Let's keep in mind the sacred truth:
Jesus is the reason.

Christmas Bags

Happy Saturday everyone. I hope that your weekend is filled with holiday crafting and baking. My mom is making tamales today and I can't wait to eat them. Yummy!

When I started out with my Christmas decorating this year I realized I didn't have all my stockings. I really didn't want to buy new ones because only some were missing. So instead of stockings this year I made Christmas goodie bags. I added initials to the bags with ribbon along with a little bell.

The bags did come out a little bigger then what I wanted them to be but now I can stuff some really fun gifts inside. I used two fat quarters for each bag, bought two rolls of ribbon, a bag of bells and used paper for the initials that I already had. Total price for one bag turned out to be around $5. I can live with that.

Holiday Eating Tips

HOLIDAY EATING TIPS

1.  Avoid carrot sticks. Anyone who puts carrots on a holiday buffet table knows nothing of the holiday spirit. In fact, if you see carrots, leave immediately. Go next door, where they're serving rum balls. Hella!!!!

2. Drink as much eggnog as you can. And quickly. It's rare... You cannot find it any other time of year but now. So drink up! Who cares that it has 10,000 calories in every sip? It's not as if you're going to turn into an eggnog-alcoholic or something. It's a treat. Enjoy it. Have one for me. Have two. It's later than you think. It's Christmas

3. If something comes with gravy, use it. That's the whole point of gravy. Gravy does not stand alone. Pour it on. Make a volcano out of your mashed potatoes. Fill it with gravy. Eat the volcano. Repeat.

4. As for mashed potatoes, always ask if they're made with skim milk or whole milk. If it's skim, pass. Why bother? It's like buying a sports car with an automatic transmission.

5. Do not have a snack before going to a party in an effort to control your eating. The whole point of going to a Holiday party is to eat other people's food for free. Lots of it. Hello?

6. Under no circumstances should you exercise between now and New Year's. You can do that in January when you have nothing else to do. This is the time for long naps, which you'll need after circling the buffet table while carrying a 10-pound plate of food and that vat of eggnog.

7. If you come across something really good at a buffet table, like frosted Christmas cookies in the shape and size of Santa, position yourself near them and don't budge. Have as many as you can before becoming the center of attention. They're like a beautiful pair of shoes. If you leave them behind, you're never going to see them again.

8. Same for pies. Apple, Pumpkin, Mincemeat. Have a slice of each. Or if you don't like mincemeat, have two apples and one pumpkin. Always have three. When else do you get to have more than one dessert? Labor Day

9. Did someone mention fruitcake? Granted, it's loaded with the mandatory celebratory calories, but avoid it at all cost. I mean, have some standards.

10. One final tip: If you don't feel terrible when you leave the party or get up from the table, you haven't been paying attention. Re-read tips; start over, but hurry, January is just around the corner. Remember this motto to live by:

"Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate and wine in one hand, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO HOO what a ride!"

Have a great holiday season!!

Gift Card Holder

Hi everyone. Can you believe Christmas is next week? Where did the time go?

I want to share a quick and easy project I made. I got this idea from Kristina Werner. She made Christmas cards that look like "gifts". You can see her blog post here. I thought I would give it a try but instead of just a card I made it into a gift card holder.

I made these for my daughter, niece and nephew for the Itunes cards that will be in their Christmas goodie bags. I will post the bags in another post.
Here's a mini tutorial.

I once again I used the DCWV Christmas combo pack.

First cut cardstock to 4"x8" and fold in half to make it 4"x4"
For the inside pocket cut cardstock to 3 3/4"x1 1/2"
I used a 1" circle punch to make the half circle on the pocket.  Insert the cardstock halfway in the punch to make the half circle.
Apply sticky tape to sides and bottom of pocket. I used the 1/4" tape. Stick pocket to the inside of card.
The inside is now done.

For the front cut pattern paper to 3 1/2"x3 1/2" and attach to the front of card.
Wrap ribbon around the card and make a bow.

The bows were really kicking my you know what today but I think I won in the end.

Kristina has a video on her blog post showing how she made the card. If you would like to see it click on the link.

Happy Thanksgiving

It's Thanksgiving! Yay food!

What are you thankful for this year? I'm thankful for being able to put food on the table when so many are not able. I'm thankful for having a home and my family being healthy and safe. I'm thankful for all of you who follow me on my blog and Facebook. I'm thankful for all the new friends I have made through craft forums, blogs, Facebook and Etsy. And I am thankful for the soldiers who are keeping this country safe. I will keep them in my prayers so they can be back with their families soon.

Death The Kid-Soul Eater Pillow

My daughter loves the anime Soul Eater and is totally in love with Death The Kid. She begged me to make her a pillow and of course she has a way of getting what she wants. This is what I came up with.

I had some printable fabric stashed away that I bought about a year ago and never used it.  This was a great way to try it out.

It was really simple to use and the quality was better than I expected.
First you print the photo you would like on the fabric. Once thats printed wait 15 minutes to let the ink dry and remove the paper backing. Rinse the fabric under running tap water for 30 seconds or until the water runs clear. Let it dry and iron if needed. Now you can use it on whatever project you like.

I used a paper backed fusible webbing and simply ironed it on to the fabric before sewing the pillow. So simple. I have forgotten how easy it is to make pillows. Must make more.

Home Made Truck Tent

During the summer time my husband saw a website for tents that will fit on the back of a truck. Like so....

Of course my husband has to make everything himself and gets me involved whether I want to or not. But I must say it was fun making something together. Here's our tent.

My husband used conduit for the frame, used a tarp for the tent and stretchy cord with hooks to keep everything nice and snug. The mattress in the back is specially made for trucks. I had no idea there was such a thing.

We did have fun camping. My daughter didn't want to go. She said the tent was embarrassing. So me and my hubby got some quality time together. That's always nice.

Sketch Challenge At InStyle Stamps Blog

It's time for the October Sketch Challenge at the InStyle Stamps blog. Here is the sketch.

I normally don't participate but decided to give it a go this month. I haven't made a card in years so to me it's a bit beginner looking. I don't have Copic makers so I used Prisma Color pencils. My coloring is not that great. Maybe I should practice some more. I used the digi stamp Violet. My daughter plays the violin and just had her first orchestra concert of the year. I thought this would be perfect.

I used chipboard letters and embossed them with white glittery embossing powder. The black ribbon on the bottom had white polka dots which I replaced with bling. I also added a black yo-yo and added bling to that as well.

This was really fun to do. I think I'm getting the card making bug.

Sorry about the dark pics. I have a new camera and I keep using the wrong settings on it. That's what happens when you don't read the manual.

Thanks for stopping by,
Laura

New Blog Name and Other News

Hi everyone. I wanted to let everyone know that my blog's name is now Laura Tiffany Studios. The site address(url) will still remain the same so that if someone looks for my blog it still pops up. This is much easier than having to start all over. Now that I have two shops I can post everything in one blog.

In other news.
I had some dental work done on friday and I haven't been feeling well since then. So naturally I haven't been working on anything. I am feeling better now and will be working on some fabric journals and Post-It holders. I also drafted a new bag pattern a couple of weeks ago and I'm anxious to see how the bag will turn out. I did work on a Peyote stitch bracelet and I will  post a pic of it as soon as I can.

Have a crafty day!

Super Simple Laminate Bookmark With No Heat

This bookmark is so quick and simple you'll want to make them for every reader you know.

The laminate sheets I used are self seal and the brand is GBC. They are 3mil and measure 9" x 12". They come in a 10 pack and I believe they were about $12.

Bookmarks are just the beginning for these laminate sheets. You can also make luggage tags and what about recipe cards to give as gifts. The possibilities are endless.
